The exhibit. Dozens of bodies showcased in an exhibit may have come from Chinese political prisoners who were allegedly put through gruesome torture and ultimately murdered, The Daily Mail reports. The reputable exhibit, entitled “Real Bodies: The Exhibition,” displays 20 cadavers and 200 body parts that have been preserved through plastination.

Stripped of skin. The exhibit showcases a plethora of human bodies sans skin. Muscles, tendons, organs, and bones are exposed throughout the display, offering rare insight into how the human body looks — and functions — at its core.

Concerns. That said, people are now calling foul play on where the human remains allegedly came from, The Daily Mail reports. Namely, doctors are experiencing “grave concerns that the bodies were not freely and willingly donated before they were harvested in China.”

Falun Gong. Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting revealed the corpses were most likely members of Falun Gong, a Chinese religious sect which is regularly persecuted in the country. “The origins of these bodies have been questioned and believed to come from China — either death row prisoners, or as suspected by independent investigators, tortured prisoners of conscience,” the organization told News Corp.

Sourced legally. The bodies were reportedly provided by Dalian Medical University Biology Planation in China. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the professor of Anatomy at the school, Hong Jin Sui, insists the corpses were sourced legally, The Daily Mail reports.
