Officer Fired for Refusing to Shoot Black Suspect Who Was Perceived Armed on a Domestic Violence Call

After refusing to fire shots at a black man who was holding a firearm during a domestic violence distress call, police officer Stephen Mader was fired by the police department. Mader, who had been using his training as a US Marine, had been attempting to talk the man down from a shooting scene when additional officers arrived on site. The man raised his weapon, and the new officers shot and killed the suspect. Mader was then fired for “freezing” instead of shooting the suspect.
