Meet The Man Who Saved Thousands Of People From The Nazis

Sir Nicholas Winton will always be remembered for being a legend who walked among men.

He was a British humanitarian worker who organised the rescue of 669 children from the Holocaust in Czechoslovakia.

Sir Nicholas, then a stockbroker, arranged for trains to carry Jewish children out of occupied Prague. In an operation he founded known as Czech Kindertransport, he diverted trains which were destined for the Nazi death camps before World War II.

Sir Nicholas organised a total of eight trains from Prague, with some other forms of transport also set up from Vienna.

But the world only found out about his work more than 40 years later.

And this is what happened when the man dubbed as the ‘British Schindler’ found out he was in an audience surrounded by many of those he saved on a TV programme he was attending, presented by Esther Rantzen.

In light of his kind heart and his brave spirit, he was knighted by the Queen in March 2003.

Sir Nicholas died last year at the incredible age of 106.
