Popping the question is one of the most nerve-wracking things you’ll ever do. They love you of course, but do they love you enough?
If you’re adamant they do, then you’re already halfway there. But the proposal has to be done correctly. It’s one of the few times in life where the mundanities of everything else can be put to one side as you bask in the next stage of your relationship. Done without thought, however, and a simple question can turn into a pained experience.
With that in mind, we’ve found ten magical places that will all but guarantee a “yes.”
Best of luck…
1. Clos Maggiore Resturant- London
The British have a reputation for being old-fashioned romantics, and London’s Clos Maggiore certainly has no plans of dispelling that myth. Located in a quiet street just off London’s vibrant Covent Garden, this French/ Italian eatery is laden in beautiful wisteria and a whole host of other ornate floral trinkets. Be sure to book in advance and request the main dining room otherwise you risk being placed in a less inspired part of the building.
2. The Pont Neuf- Paris
As the oldest standing bridge on the Seine, lovers have adorned the Pont Neuf (the “New Bridge”) on many an occasion since its completion in 1578. And that’s not hard to see when you look down on the sun-dappled waters and the quaint riverside buildings that decorate both sides. For an even more scenic proposal, visit in the late evening. Then, you’ll see the river turn a lucid gold from the Bridge’s lights.
3. Santorini- Greece
The volcanic Island of Santorini is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and that’s largely down to the natural beams from above. Highly romantic and awe-inspiringly beautiful, a Santorini proposal is hard to better. For the best results, wait till the town transforms into a dim glow of oranges and pinks. Perched high enough to see the sunset, get down on one knee and let them know that no matter where you are in the world, the only thing that’s breathtaking is them. Cheesy and saccharine, but when proposing….
4. Sky Bar- Bangkok
As the highest open-air bar in the world, Sky Bar, which sits atop the 63rd floor of a Bangkok skyscraper, isn’t short of demand. But book in advance and you’ll be dazzled by the twinkling metropolis that extends itself well into the distance. Just make sure they aren’t scared of heights…..
5. La Terrazza Resturant- Naples
Italian’s know everything there is to know about style, and dining experiences at proposal-perfect restaurants are no exception. At La Terrazza, for instance, you can indulge in a traditionally cooked Nepalese meal while looking out onto the glimmering waters of the Mediterranean as you sip a cold glass of prosecco. For maximum effect, be sure to book a table overlooking the balcony.
6. Hotel Excelsior- Dubrovnik
The stunning Croatian city of Dubrovnik is one of the most visited destinations in Europe, especially after producers of the hit HBO series, “Game of Thrones” shot many of the episodes on the island. Reserve a room at the Hotel Excelsior, however, and you can assure yourself an even greater chance of marriage. Overlooking the sparkling blue waters and famed medieval castle, their stunning restaurant- especially at night- allows for ample proposal opportunities.
7. Winvian Farm- Connecticut
If your idea of romance involves cozy fireside chats and acres of leafy and secluded countryside, then a stay at one of Winvian Farm’s luxury cabins in Connecticut might just be the perfect place to pop the question.
What’s more, all cottages are themed and tailor-made for the perfect experience. Beaver Lodge, for instance, comes with a double-sided fireplace and a living tree growing in the sitting room. Maritime, a cottage imitating the shape of a lighthouse, is filled with a plethora of nautical antiques while Treehouse, (which as the name suggests, is indeed a treehouse) is hung 35 feet from the forest floor.
8. The Mulia Hotel- Bali
Overlooking the stunning Nusa Dua Bay, this luxury resort offers a proposal that even Nicholas Sparks would be proud of. For added intimacy, try booking one of the few secluded hilltop villas. And for those wanting to kills two birds with one stone? Well, fear not- the resort boasts a floating glass chapel perched atop a reflecting pool.
9. Hyams Beach- Australia
Holding the Guinness World Record for the world’s whitest sand, a romantic evening stroll across Australia’s lesser known Hymas Beach, which lies 3 hours south of Sydney, will provide you with all the scenery you need before the all-important question.
10. Casa di Giulietta- Verona
In fair Verona, where we lay our final suggestion, lies the balcony William Shakespeare depicted in his famous play, Romeo and Juliet. For many women, at least, a proposal can’t get any better than at the location which influenced the greatest love story ever told.
