Just when you thought you’d seen the last of Ken Bone — he’s back.
The 34-year-old became a viral sensation as an audience member who asked a question during the second presidential debate. Bone became particularly famous for his red cable knit IZOD sweater — which immediately sold out on Amazon after the debate.
On Thursday, the clothing company behind the sweater released a public service announcement to encourage people to get involved with the election. Called Ken Bone’s Fifteenth Minute, the video features the coal plant operator traveling from his home in Illinois to inspire everyone at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to vote.
Bone acknowledges that he’s “not going to be Internet famous forever,” but he still wants to inspire hope.
“I’m not a politician,” he says in the video. “I’m just a guy with a political message.”
In the video, Bone stresses the importance of looking past the negativity of the presidential campaign.
“We’re going to learn how you effect change for the positive, even when something bad happens,” he said. “It’s really important that we don’t give up on the political process.”
The video has received over 100,000 views.
Voter turnout during an election is extremely important. In addition to the outcome of the presidential election, your vote can determine who represents you in Congress and in your state government. And studies have shown that increased voting turnout has a direct impact on policy improvements.
So if there’s one lesson to take away from Ken Bone’s popularity, it’s this: get involved and vote!
